 What is MD5?

MD5 is a checksum algorithm commonly used to verify that a file download was successful. This works by computing an MD5 checksum on the downloaded file and comparing it with the MD5 checksum listed on the download page. If the checksums don't match, the file was corrupted during the download process. Linux and OS X provide commandline utilities for this purpose. For other platforms check Google.
